{"id":15896,"date":"2023-10-31T12:40:43","date_gmt":"2023-10-31T19:40:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/?p=15896"},"modified":"2024-01-18T10:55:46","modified_gmt":"2024-01-18T17:55:46","slug":"skeptical-look-at-laudate-deum-plus-the-other-moral-dilemma-pope-francis-faces-bearing-false-witness-against-skeptic-climate-scientists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/?p=15896","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Skeptical Look at <i>Laudate Deum<\/i>&#8221; \u2014 Plus The Other &#8216;Moral Dilemma&#8217; Pope Francis Faces: Bearing False Witness Against Skeptic Climate Scientists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Heartland Institute&#8217;s Linnea Luken wrote a great piece at AmericanThinker on October 14th, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanthinker.com\/articles\/2023\/10\/a_skeptical_look_at_emlaudate_deumem.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Skeptical Look at <em>Laudate Deum<\/em><\/a>,&#8221; but one angle not addressed there is how Pope Francis is the most vulnerable in his concern about the Clima-Change\u2122 issue \u2014 not on his &#8216;science,&#8217; but instead regarding any implication he might make out of his sentence seen <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Laudate-Deum-deniers-of-IPCC.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in paragraph 13<\/a> of his October 4, 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/apost_exhortations\/documents\/20231004-laudate-deum.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Laudate Deum<\/em><\/a> regarding his prior paragraphs&#8217; assertions about &#8216;rising temperatures, ocean acidification, receding glaciers, diminishing snow cover and rising sea levels.&#8217;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It is not possible to conceal <strong><span class=\"textmarker-highlight\" data-tm-id=\"1_0\">the correlation of these global climate phenomena and the accelerated increase in greenhouse gas emissions<\/span><\/strong>, particularly since the mid-twentieth century. The overwhelming majority of scientists specializing in the climate support this correlation, and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">only a very small percentage of them seek to deny the evidence<\/span>.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Seek to deny&#8221; \u2026 how, <strong><i>exactly<\/i><\/strong>? Deliberately? And under what incentive to do so? Tragically, Pope Francis, just like <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/?p=9001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greta Thunberg<\/a>, is protected by screeners who don&#8217;t permit tough questions to be asked. I&#8217;d be willing to wager, though, that both would make the unforced error if the opportunity arose to say skeptic scientists are on the payroll of Big Oil to spread disinformation.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Therein likes the fatal vulnerability of Pope Francis: \u00a0the question would be if he just broke the commandment about bearing false witness. Albeit that problem stemming from unintentional ignorance, but still unacceptable nevertheless. I&#8217;ve long posed that basic question about the so-called &#8216;moral imperative for Christians to stop global warming&#8217;:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Which is the bigger sin, failing to act in an issue which is increasingly plagued with problems concerning its &#8216;scientific basis,&#8217; or prompting others to ignore skeptic climate scientists by telling them that those skeptics are immoral industry-paid &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/TheNation-MoD-Liars-for-Hire2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">liars for hire<\/a>\u2019?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Back in 2015, <i>CatholicOnline<\/i>&#8216;s Marshall Connolly made the mistake <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholic.org\/news\/green\/story.php?id=59114\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.catholic.org\/news\/green\/story.php?id%3D59114&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1698862856416000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3qhrpHBBeZWd5__u9V-c_2\">in his article<\/a> of saying <b>I<\/b> was caught among others in an email chain Who&#8217;s Who list of climate change deniers. His article got that chain list from <a href=\"https:\/\/insideclimatenews.org\/news\/12032015\/leaked-email-reveals-whos-who-list-climate-denialists-merchants-of-doubt-oreskes-fred-singer-marc-morano-steve-milloy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/insideclimatenews.org\/news\/12032015\/leaked-email-reveals-whos-who-list-climate-denialists-merchants-of-doubt-oreskes-fred-singer-marc-morano-steve-milloy\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1698862856416000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3hL9oLhmauc4XH3zmVCeIx\">an Inside Climate News accusatory piece<\/a> (I&#8217;m <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/ICN-Briggs-Cook-Curry.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/ICN-Briggs-Cook-Curry.jpg&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1698862856416000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3SmJEGiJtzmxDMIUw0V_S3\">between Matt Briggs and Dr Judith Curry<\/a> there &#8211; I detailed who the apparently self-admitted email chain leaker was <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/?p=12074\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>). When I re-read Connolly&#8217;s article in December 2016, Connolly was approachable enough about his mistake that he let me publish <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholic.org\/news\/green\/story.php?id=75535\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.catholic.org\/news\/green\/story.php?id%3D75535&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1698862856416000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1_4ItLyVfBWeX24-L88fCH\">a guest post later at <i>CatholicOnline<\/i><\/a> about the exact moral dilemma problem I was asking about.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Pope Francis could be excused for repeating misinformation or half-truths about climate scientists; he&#8217;s not a climate scientist.
