In those two experiments, give GeminiAI credit for not veering into <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Chat-Sub-i-Gelb-Pulit.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the brick wall mistake<\/a> that ChatGPT did, falsely attributing Ross Gelbspan with a Pulitzer Prize win that he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pulitzer.org\/search\/Gelbspan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>never<\/em><\/strong> actually received<\/a> in any form. As I showed in <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/?p=17683\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my just-prior blog post<\/a>, there is a difference between dutifully regurgitating what people feed you, and doing the heavy lifting to find out if what they tell you is actually true.<\/p>\n<p>There are new A.I. systems out there now that you can ask questions. So, let&#8217;s first see where GeminiAI is still not particularly bright, and then let&#8217;s see what two other systems can tell us about the late Ross Gelbspan, since <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/HiO-sleeve-34.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his work<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FnF_AFnGW3Q&amp;t=659s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his words<\/a> forms <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Maine-reposit.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the basis<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Maine-v-Singer-attacks.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the accusations<\/a> in the very current &#8220;ExxonKnew&#8221; lawsuits.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>All I did here was ask a straight up question, without leading GeminiAI in any way. I&#8217;ve highlighted particular bits in red, to mention what the faults are with them after the result below. Hold that thought for a moment, however. Notice how the last highlighted thing I have for the above little essay result is that the GeminiAI system offers the caveat that it can make mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>On that note, what is its source reference for my highlighted item about Gelbspan&#8217;s 1997 book? An <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/NPR-LOE-ref-for-HiO-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">obituary item<\/a> in National Public Radio&#8217;s &#8220;Living on Earth&#8221; program, in which radio host\/journalist Steve Curwood &#8230;. <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/LoE-Gelb-Feb-24-Pulit.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said Gelbspan won a Pulitzer<\/a>. So did GeminiAI make a mistake by not crediting Gelbspan with winning a Pulitzer? No, Curwood did. Regarding Curwood himself, in perhaps hugely ironic fashion, Wikipedia <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Curwood-journalist-Pulit-co-sharer.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">credits <em>him<\/em> as sharing a Pulitzer<\/a> as part of a <em>Boston Globe<\/em> education team. The Pulitzer organization says Curwood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pulitzer.org\/search\/Curwood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">did not win a Pulitzer in any manner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Next in the above red-highlighted bits is the reference to &#8220;DeSmogBlog.&#8221; At their site, it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/DeSmog-40x.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">just Desmog<\/a>, it doesn&#8217;t have <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/NO-DSmBlog.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Blog<\/em> at the end<\/a> of their name. Has GeminiAI <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/smog-or-smogblog.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made a strange<\/a> mistake calling it &#8220;DeSmogBlog?&#8221; No, James Hoggan, the original co-founder <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Hoggan-blog-liars.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made the mistake<\/a>. When a talking point by enviro-activists became more actively spread about <strong>blogs<\/strong> (e.g. WUWT, ClimateDepot) aren&#8217;t credible sources, somebody later on at Desmogblog probably said &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/DesmogBLOG-WUWT-1024x987.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Uhh &#8230; wait a moment<\/em><\/a>.&#8221; By the way, Ross Gelbspan did not merely &#8216;inspire&#8217; Hoggan to create his blog, Gelbspan was the other <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Desmog-co-founder-not-named.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unnamed co-founder<\/a>. He said so starting at the 8 second point of <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/sciencepope\/ross-exposing-coal-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this old audio interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s the source for the assertion that Gelbspan is &#8220;<em>remembered as a pioneer in climate accountability journalism<\/em>&#8220;? <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Americans-not-telling-truth.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A website<\/a> with the ironic title of &#8220;Americans Who Tell the Truth.&#8221; Gelbspan had demonstrably not done so regarding his resum\u00e9 and regarding his quite likely libelous\/slanderous accusations against skeptic climate scientists. And that false accolade always goes hand-in-glove with his false accusations.
