Additions to this list will be ref&#8217;d in this top paragraph. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">4\/6\/26 UPDATE:\u00a0 Added #17 <strong>Massachusetts v. Exxon<\/strong> &#8211; which I&#8217;d overlooked when I initially created this list), and #18 <strong>Birmingham Retirement &amp; Relief v Tillerson<\/strong> \/ #4 <strong>Ramirez v Exxon<\/strong> &#8211; both of which I was not aware of until April 5, 2026 and found using<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climatecasechart.com\/search?l=united-states-of-america&amp;q=%22Wei-hock+Soon%22&amp;o=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a keyword search for &#8220;Wei-Hock Soon&#8221;<\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">within the The Columbia Law School&#8217;s Sabin Center for Climate Change Law &#8220;Climate Litigation Database.&#8221; These three are now entered into the list according to the date they were filed, but over at my list of &#8220;ExxonKnew&#8221; lawsuits, it was just easier to add <strong>Birmingham<\/strong> and <strong>Ramirez<\/strong> in at the bottom.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In a bit of wishful thinking, the hugely suspect Center for Climate Integrity (CCI) gloated in its <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/CCI-quarter-wave.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December 19, 2024 &#8216;News &amp; Analysis&#8217; piece<\/a> that more than &#8220;<em>one in four Americans now live in a community suing Big Oil, underscoring <strong>the rapidly growing wave<\/strong> of calls to hold the oil and gas industry accountable for its decades-long climate deception<\/em>\u2026&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The reality of the situation is that CCI itself is noted by both <a href=\"https:\/\/climatelitigationwatch.org\/?s=%22center+for+climate+integrity%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Climate Litigation Watch website<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/eidclimate.org\/?s=%22center+for+climate+integrity%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Energy in Depth website<\/a> as apparently one of the main drivers pushing any gullible state \/ city \/ municipality leader in America to consider filing an &#8220;ExxonKnew&#8221; lawsuit. I&#8217;ve shown here at GelbspanFiles that CCI trumpeted their mid summer 2023 hiring of <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Roland-C-Davies.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roland C<\/a> &#8220;Kert&#8221; Davies as <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Wiles-Davies-30-yrs-Big-Oil-Beware.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">their Director of Special Investigations<\/a>, and within<a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/?tag=kert-davies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> my tag category of major mentions of him<\/a>, that he has <strong><em>direct associations<\/em><\/strong> with <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ExxKnew-4-accusation-elements.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the four main elements of the central accusations<\/a> in nearly all of these lawsuits. I&#8217;ve further suggested that since every one of the 35 current &#8220;ExxonKnew&#8221; lawsuits is enslaved to at least one if not all four elements, that we do not actually have any such &#8220;growing wave&#8221; of lawsuits, we instead have the same basic template \u2014 call it the &#8220;<em>John Passacantando, Kert Davies, et al. [dba <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/?p=4482\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greenpeace USA n\u00e9e Ozone Action<\/a> \/ <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Freebeacon-Passac-Davies-dark--1024x828.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Our Next Economy \/ CIC<\/a> ] v. Exxon &amp; any other applicable energy companies<\/em>&#8221; template, for lack of a better description \u2014 being repeated <em>ad nauseam<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The main law firm pushing these lawsuits is already <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/2024.10.07-Sher-Edling-Memo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">under investigation by the U.S. House and Senate<\/a>. With new Senate GOP majority rule and the power to subpoena witnesses and demand they produce particular documents, these investigations are going to need bulletproof backup material to proceed. Since the entire accusation surrounding Dr Soon as it pertains to accusations in these lawsuits has every appearance of originating from<strong> just two individuals<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Roland-Lee-v-Soon.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Passacantando and Davies<\/a>, who both also appear to be participants <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Davies-Passac-Wasserman-suspects.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in efforts to portray Exxon as a corrupt organization<\/a> &#8211; it would be handy to have a list of how far and wide their accusations have been spread into the main law firm&#8217;s filings, and into the filings by others who&#8217;ve apparently plagiarized the accusations.\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>First, a short timeline of the &#8216;illicit funding&#8217; accusations against Dr Soon &#8211; <strong><em>all<\/em><\/strong> from the <strong><em>same<\/em><\/strong> massively dubious source:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u2022 1998: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/EWG-Report-98-Soon-SUSPECTED2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Suspected <\/strong>fossil fuel funding &#8211; Compensation for services to Western Fuels Assoc. funded project<\/em><\/a>&#8221; \u2014 that, from a &#8220;CLEAR&#8221; report <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160325002241\/http:\/\/research.greenpeaceusa.org\/?a=download&amp;d=1860\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by the Environmental Working Group<\/a> in 1998. Notice in that screencapture, one of its &#8216;sources&#8217; is the old Ozone Action group. During 1998, Kert Davies was <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Davies-LinkedIn-Jan24-GPOA.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transitioning from working at EWG to Ozone Action<\/a>.<br \/>\n\u2022 May 29, 2009, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20090608225554\/http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/kert-davies\/revealed-exxon-secret-fun_b_208269.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kert Davies own article he authored<\/a> at the <em>Huffington Post<\/em> as &#8220;Research Director for Greenpeace US&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Davies-v-Soon-HuffPo-2009.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a>, &#8220;<em>Exxon has revealed a dirty secret, that it has and likely still is directly funding junk scientists<\/em> &#8230; <em>we now have a direct link between the Exxon black bag o&#8217; cash and two scientists<\/em> &#8230; <em>The new Exxon Giving report shows straight pipe funding, in the odd but specific sum of <strong>$76,106 to the Smithsonian Astrophysics Observatory<\/strong>, home of Dr. Willie Soon and Dr. Sallie Baliunas. <strong>Or we assume the cash went to these two<\/strong>, until Exxon explains itself<\/em>.&#8221; Legal scholars may confirm this, I&#8217;ll simply say Davies&#8217; accusation <strong><em>assumption<\/em><\/strong> right there without any proof it is verified could fit <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/NYTvSullivan-false-or-reckless-disregard.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the court precedent about statements being libelous<\/a> when they are made with reckless disregard to whether they are true <strong>or not.<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 June 28, 2011 report announcement at Greenpeace, authored by Kert Davies: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210926133710\/https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/dr-willie-soon-a-career-fueled-by-koch-big-oil-and-coal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Willie Soon: a Career Fueled by Koch, Big Oil and Coal<\/a>.&#8221; The UK <em>Guardian<\/em> newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2011\/jun\/28\/climate-change-sceptic-willie-soon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported that &#8216;news&#8217; the very same day<\/a> day, quoting &#8220;<em>research director at Greenpeace US<\/em>&#8221; Kert Davies: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Davies-Soon-pawn.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Scientists like Dr Soon, who take fossil fuel money and pretend to be independent scientists, are pawns<\/em><\/a>.&#8221; The Internet Archive has preserved Davies&#8217; Greenpeace full report <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110701134815\/https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/en\/campaigns\/global-warming-and-energy\/polluterwatch\/koch-industries\/CASE-STUDY-Dr-Willie-Soon-a-Career-Fueled-by-Big-Oil-and-Coal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">since July 2011<\/a> albeit with loads of extraneous html formatting code for each scan crawl. The <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/R5oai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Archive.is site provides a page from July 2013<\/a>, minus all that extra code gibberish.<br \/>\n\u2022 November 5, 2013, reported by the <em>Boston Globe,<\/em>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131108195900\/http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com:80\/news\/nation\/2013\/11\/05\/harvard-smithsonian-global-warming-skeptic-helps-feed-strategy-doubt-gridlock-congress\/uHssYO1anoWSiLw0v1YcUJ\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Researcher helps sow climate-change doubt<\/a>,&#8221; which dutifully regurgitated the <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/BGlobe-v-Soon-2013.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two year-old false accusation about &#8220;$1.2 million.&#8221;<\/a><br \/>\n\u2022 February 22, 2015, reported by such major news outlets as the <em>Boston Globe<\/em>, <em>New York Times<\/em>, <em>Washington Pos<\/em>t articles <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/BGlobe-Davies.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cited<\/a> Kert Davies&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/NYT-Davies.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supposedly<\/a> damaging <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/WashPo-Davies.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documents<\/a> without ever noting he&#8217;d previously worked at Greenpeace. The UK <em>Guardian<\/em> was <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Grauniad-Davies-v-Soon-2015.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the only one to do so<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The two items critical to consider from that timeline is how <strong>1)<\/strong> the Smithsonian Institution, Dr Soon&#8217;s employer, did <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> respond until February 2015 that they were &#8220;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Smithson-allegations-Soon.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conducting inquiries to address the allegations<\/a> that Dr. Wei-Hock (Willie) Soon failed to disclose to journals the funding sources for his climate change research<\/em>,&#8221; and <strong>2)<\/strong>, that exactly just one week earlier, <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/OA-staff-Jan-99.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ex-Ozone Action<\/a> \/ <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/ex-GPers-Passac-Davies.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ex-Greenpeacers<\/a> John Passacantando and Kert Davies <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Roland-Lee-v-Soon.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">were about to launch the above-noted February 22 news event<\/a> in which Dr Soon would be portrayed as an oil industry shill.<\/p>\n<p>The accusation is provably false, as shown by:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/heartland.org\/opinion\/investigation-of-dr-willie-soon-smoke-no-fire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H. Sterling Burnett, March 6, 2015<\/a><br \/>\n\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/soon-regents-without.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Viscount Monckton of Brenchley \/ David Legates \/ Matt Briggs, March 6, 2015<\/a><br \/>\n\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/heartland.org\/about-us\/who-we-are\/willie-soon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heartland bio page for Willie Soon<\/a>, with <em>extensive<\/em> details surrounding the false accusation against him \/ collection of <strong>60 articles<\/strong> written in his defense<br \/>\n\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/heartland.org\/opinion\/a-few-facts-for-climate-alarmists-waging-war-against-astrophysicist-willie-soon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ron Arnold, April 20, 2016<\/a><br \/>\n\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DgMZUZJyXXs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Terry Gannon, May 8, 2020<\/a> (with additional info on Kert Davies <a href=\"http:\/\/gelbspanfiles.com\/?p=10173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>)<br \/>\n\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EcXzZwo8_qg&amp;t=220s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Willie Soon, September 6, 2022<\/a> \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oOY_wRICi7k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October 9, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Conspicuous by the magnitude of its <strong>absence<\/strong> is the results of the 2015 &#8211; 2020 &#8220;<em>inquiries to address the allegations<\/em>&#8221; by the Smithsonian Institution. It is possible that it may require the subpoena power of a U.S. Senate or House committee to force the Smithsonian to produce the results or to at least minimally explain why they <strong><em>took their 2015 press release page offline<\/em><\/strong> without explanation sometime <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200304150123\/https:\/\/www.si.edu\/newsdesk\/releases\/smithsonian-statement-dr-wei-hock-willie-soon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">between March 4, 2020<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200901150041\/https:\/\/www.si.edu\/newsdesk\/releases\/smithsonian-statement-dr-wei-hock-willie-soon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September 1, 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That is an important detail, because it is that very press release which is what the Sher Edling law firm cites as their source of proof that Dr Soon was &#8220;bankrolled by fossil fuel interests.&#8221; That elemental accusation, in order of appearance in <strong><em>all<\/em><\/strong> of the &#8220;ExxonKnew&#8221; lawsuits, is as follows (those <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> under Sher Edling &#8216;handling&#8217; are shown with double asterisks and additional notes where applicable).
